Guarana is a creeping shrub native to the Amazon. The fruit is small, round, bright-red in color, and grows in clusters. As it ripens, the fruit splits and a black seed emerges. This seed is the active part. It is dried and then roasted just like a coffee bean. The roasted seeds are ground and mixed with water to form a paste. This paste retains all the active phytochemicals and is what is used in the production of Eiro Energy. Now, let’s look at how Guarana affects your body.

There are 4 Xanthines in Guarana: Caffeine, Paraxanthine, Theobromine, and Theophylline. Each, working synergistically, contribute to the pharmacological effects of Guarana. In clinical studies, the xanthine alkaloids in Guarana have been shown to stimulate and strengthen the heart, stimulate the central nervous system, enhance alertness and alleviate fatigue.(1) * Clinical evidence suggests that Guarana inhibits platelet aggregation (sticky blood) and helps prevent the formation of blood clots.(2) * Recently, Guarana was validated by scientist as effective in improving mental acuity and enhancing long-term memory and memory retention.(3) * The xanthines in Guarana have been found to facilitate weight loss, by creating a feeling of fullness and increasing thermogenesis (fat burning). Caffeine increases resting energy expenditure and causes an increase in turnover of fatty acids, thus promoting “fat burning” within the cells.(4) * For improving athletic performance, caffeine has been shown to decrease perceived levels of exertion, which enables the athlete to feel less tired. It also seems to enhance muscle metabolism and improve oxygen utilization.(5) *
To sum it up, Guarana has been used worldwide as an energy tonic and natural stimulant. In addition, it has many health promoting benefits and is accepted as a safe way to boost energy. Another way that Eiro Energy gives your mind and body a balanced boost.

/ April 8, 2009HI,
I am a 50 year old male who partakes in cycle racing on a regular basis, I would be out training on my bike 4-5 days a week covering about 200 miles per week. I have recently been taking a vitamin supplement “Berocca Boost” which contains 222.2mg of Guarana, I would like to know is this a safe level to take/is the amount of Guarana only small levels in the vitamin?
I have no health problems,& I am wondering would it be safe to take this supplement on a daily basis or only at regular intervals
Thanking you

/ April 8, 2009Caffeine has been shown to increase basal metabolic rate and enhance fat oxidation during endurance exercise. It can increase levels of free fatty acids by 50 to 100% during exercise leading to a glycogen-sparing effect and thereby delaying fatigue. The bad news is that tollerance to these positive effects develop within days. This glycogen-sparing effect will be negated by routine use of caffeine containing products. Caffeine/Eiro Energy prior to your long ride should help conserve glycogen. I use a caffeine containing gel prior to races and eliminate all caffeine a week prior to the race. You will need to test this in training before you try it. I am going to test Eiro Enengy prior to some of my long rides (if it ever warms up enough to get outside). Let me know how it works for you. Re: your Beroca Plus, I would try and find one without caffeine. If you want to know what I use, just ask.
